Lockdown Memories 2020
The Retreat closed its doors on the evening of Friday 20 March 2020. This, as you know, was on the instructions of the Government. We know it is the right thing to do for the safety of our friends, customers and our community. We are looking forward to be able to safely reopen later this year.
The St John’s community (residents of St John’s Hill, Road and Street) have been popping their heads our doors and saying hello to neighbours frequently over the lockdown weeks. Features of this have been the Thursday Clap for the NHS, nightly mugs of tea, and the Saturday night singalong (the collective name for the singers had become the St John’s Wailers).
This page has been set up to capture some of the images of the community doing what they do.
Note, social distancing guidelines have been followed throughout. Some photo angles may not show this as clearly as the reality.
What used to happen at The Retreat
Amber & The Professors: a unique British jazz experience, a fun-loving swing band who love to perform classic swing and pop with a vintage twist. This video, courtesy of Mark Ashley, is of them performing live at The Retreat pub in Reading.
